A business water bill with no water in sight
The property
A workshop unit on one of the business estates, with a kitchen and two toilets at the back fed by a plastic pipe under the concrete floor.
The problem
The water bill had jumped, yet staff had seen no water anywhere. With the unit shut and nothing running, the meter near the site entrance kept turning.
How we found it
Closed off in turn, the toilet branch failed a pressure test while the kitchen held. Tracer gas fed into it rose through a crack in the floor by the partition wall.
The outcome
We marked and photographed the crack. Payment had been taken before the visit, the business passed the report to its landlord's insurer, and the floor repair was quoted separately.
