Capped pipe under a knocked-through kitchen
The property
A semi whose kitchen and dining room became one room on a new solid floor. The old sink pipes were capped and buried.
The problem
The water company wrote about constant use. Nothing was damp, every tap was sound, and nobody knew a pipe still ran there.
How we found it
Shutting the stop tap stilled the meter, pointing indoors. A faint hiss through the floor led to the old sink spot, and tracer gas confirmed it.
The outcome
The cap's position was marked and photographed. A small square of floor came up, the unused branch was cut back, and that repair was quoted separately.
