Meter turning overnight on a supply shared with next door
The property
A Victorian terrace sharing one old supply pipe and one pavement meter with the house next door. The pipe splits under the front yards to reach each kitchen.
The problem
Both households commute, so the houses stand empty all day. A meter reading taken last thing at night had moved by morning, though neither house had run a tap.
How we found it
With both stop taps shut, and the neighbours happy to help, the meter kept moving: the leak was before the split. A ground microphone peaked under one front yard, and tracer gas agreed.
The outcome
Both households could see from the mark and photographs where their shared pipe had failed. The repair, quoted separately, meant opening up just one front yard.
