Water bill jump at a unit with a yard
The property
An industrial unit with a concrete yard in front, its supply running from a roadside meter under the yard to a kitchen at the back.
The problem
The latest bill was far higher than usual, and the water company suggested a leak. Nobody had seen water, and the yard always looked dry.
How we found it
With the unit's stop tap shut, the meter still turned: the leak lay under the yard. Listening found a peak midway, and tracer gas confirmed it.
The outcome
The owner could not be there, so paid before the visit. We marked the spot and quoted the repair, and the owner sent our report to the water company about its leak policy.
