Meter letter after the hall was rewired
The property
A Victorian semi with a suspended timber floor. The supply pipe enters under the front path and runs beneath the hall boards to a stop tap in the kitchen.
The problem
The water company wrote that the meter never stopped. The house had just been rewired, the garden was dry, and every tap and toilet was sound.
How we found it
The dial still crept round once the kitchen stop tap was closed, putting the leak between the two. A ground microphone caught a hiss under one hall board, and tracer gas rose beside it.
The outcome
We marked and photographed the board. Under it, a floor nail had gone through the old pipe when the boards were relaid. We repaired it while there, quoted separately.
