One old supply pipe feeding two terraced cottages
The property
Two terraced cottages on a narrow older street. One old metal supply pipe runs from the pavement and splits beneath the front paths, a branch to each house.
The problem
One owner had a letter about continuous use. Next door's water seemed normal; neither knew the pipe was shared until a plumber lifted the stop tap cover.
How we found it
With both stop taps shut the meter still turned, so water was escaping outside. Tested alone, next door's branch lost pressure and the other held. Listening along it found the hiss under their front garden.
The outcome
The report showed the leak on next door's branch, so next door arranged the repair. Testing old pipe can reveal more weak spots, quoted separately.
