Chalet meter running once the water was back on
The property
A timber holiday chalet near the beach, raised on low piers with the gap boarded in, where a small water heater serves the kitchen and shower.
The problem
The owner lives inland and had the water turned back on before guests arrived. The cleaner then found the heater running non-stop and the meter moving with taps shut.
How we found it
Shutting the heater's cold feed made the meter stop, so the hot pipes were at fault. A hot tap left running showed a warm band across the shower room floor on camera; moisture readings agreed.
The outcome
Photographs of the marked spot went to the owner, who agreed the repair by phone. That repair, priced on its own, was done before we left.
